Sometimes new is better.
The cell phone market has exploded in India, and though Xolo has been in business for less than a decade, and it’s already a domestic favorite.
Headquartered in Noida, India, this company manufactures laptops, tablets, smartphones, and cell phone accessories.
Lists of Firsts
Xolo has made its brand on a list of firsts, allowing the company to get a jump on the marketplace and reach new customers.
In 2012, the company put out the first smartphone in India with an Intel processor. This phone, the X900, helped to launch the company. The next year, the company was the first manufacturer in India to enter into a partnership with AMD to produce a tablet. This product, the Xolo Win, spread the company’s reach from the cell phone market and into the tablet arena. That same year, Xolo put out the first 4G smartphone ever launched in India, the LT900.
The largest online marketplace in India is called Flipkart, and Xolo signed an exclusive deal with Flipkart in 2015 to sell its products. It also marketed the first dual-camera phone in India in 2015, the Xolo Black. Xolo also has an exclusive partnership with Snapdeal going back to 2015 to sell its Xolo Era phone.
The company’s products are mainly available online, with most of its products available on major online retailers like Flipkart and Amazon. This focus on virtual sales has allowed the company to keep its costs down while expanding its market presence.
Xolo’s vision and sales philosophy come from its parent company, Lava International. Lava markets a wide variety of cell phone and computer technology to consumers in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Like Xolo, Lava is headquartered in Noida. The company has an annual revenue of almost one billion dollars and is privately held. Xolo’s status as a premium and innovative subsidiary is an important part of Lava’s family of brands.
Using top talent in entertainment has long been a proven way to attract business. Aside from its heavy online and social media marketing efforts, Xolo has employed brand ambassadors to help promote its products. Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana is a major endorsing partner for Xolo. Another Bollywood superstar, Irrfan Khan, has also been a major brand ambassador for Xolo.
Xolo continues to push the boundaries of cell phone technology. The company launched a phone with a fingerprint sensor, the Xolo Q2000. Its face recognition phone is the Xolo A500, though this technology has proved to be difficult for Xolo to perfect.
The company has worked primarily with the Android and Windows operating systems. In 2015, Xolo launched a Chromebook. Unfortunately, sales for the Xolo Chromebook were not as high as the company had hoped they would be, and the company ceased production of the product that same year.
In recent years, Xolo has struggled to push its innovation to the same heights that it was able to reach five years ago. Though the company continues to work on its cellphone and computing technology, it’s newest models have yet to gain the traction or attention of its previous iterations.
